31 foot Liveaboard cruiser on Canal du Midi
Luby Loo is a 1970 Senior 31 with 2 x Perkins 4108 48hp engines with 2 x Enfield outdrives. The boat sleeps 4, 2 in the double aft cabin and 2 in the saloon on the convertible table. There is a 180 watt solar panel which charges the 400 amp service batteries and the 2x100 amp starter batteries.
The batteries are also charged by a Wind generator, a 50 amp Sterling Battery Charger and a 75 amp alternator on each engine.
I then convert the 12 volt into 220 volts using an inverter, this powers the TV and Sky satellite system, and charges the phone and computers.etc. Over the past 5 years that I have lived permanently on board I have not need to plug into any shore power for the entire 6 months summer cruising period except for the times I have found free electricity points.
I have water tanks for about 270 litres and around 200 litres of Fuel.
The boat travels at 5 knots using 3 litres of fuel per hour using just one engine.
The boat is set up for single handed cruising and comes complete with the following equipment and extras:
Eberspacher hot air heating, Jabsco manual toilet, Shower, 3 way fridge, Plastimo Atlantic 2 burner stove, grill and oven,Safe, VHF radio, Depth Sounder, Radio/Cd player, Fire extinguishers, Ropes, Fenders, Paints etc.
Flat screen TV, Satellite TV system, Some tools, Crockery, Cuttlery, Bedding, Pans etc.
Everything you need to move onto the boat and begin cruising, also 50 litres of fuel in the tank. The berth fee in Castelnaudry is paid up until 1st April when the cruising season begins. You can the have a wonderful cruise from this lovely place either east towards the Med, or west to Toulouse and onward to Bordeaux. You do not need to pay for moorings at all in the summer and then a 5 month winter berth which includes water and electricity, showers etc costs just 110 euros per month. It is so much cheaper to keep a boat in France Belgium or Holland than it does in the UK.
The boat is booked to go into dry dock on 15th March for antifouling and painting and to have a a refit ready to begin cruising on 1st April. The only reason I am thinking of selling is I would like to buy a sailing boat to sail in the Med. down to Spain and the South coast of France, but with a shallow draft so that I can return to the canals for the winter.
For anyone wanting to get away and live on a boat this is the best way to do it cheaply. Visit my web site and see the Luby Loo 5 year cruise. on www.luby-loo.moonfruit.com
