Oru Kayaks are simply amazing: they unfold from a 33x29x9" box, to create a fully-functional 12ft kayak. Compared with most if not all other folding kayaks they're very light (just 26-lb) and very quick to assemble (5-10mins).
One of the most clever design features is that the walls of the "box" are in fact the hull itself. The boat is the box... the box is the boat. It's all made from a single sheet of durable corrugated plastic, with the folds set in for life.
Assembled the Oru kayak is remarkably rigid; this makes it fast & easy to handle in a wide range of conditions. The Oru Kayak's "hard chine" design also means confidence-inspiring stability for beginners to the sport. Those with more experience of paddling kayaks are generally amazed by the performance. These are not kayaks for ocean crossing or violent whitewater, but they do have very good all-round ability. And of course their portability means you can take an Oru kayak to a lot of places that would be impossible for a "normal" solid kayak.
