    Bavaria - 42 Cruiser

An excellent example of the "Classic" Bavaria line, "Frolika" has been in unbroken ownership from new and her condition and thoughtful updating demonstrate the care she has benefited from.

Specified in the 4 cabin layout with an in-mast furling upgrade she offers easy sail handling and flexible accommodation, and looks to be fantastic value to either coastal cruise or explore further afield. A further overview of her history can be found within the specification under "Owners Comments."

Ashore Swanwick Marina and available for immediate viewing.

    Owner's Comments

'Frolika' (named after our children Oliver, Francesca and Katy) was bought from the 1999 Southampton Boat Show and delivered in February 2000.  She also made an appearance at the millennium London show in January 2000.   We commissioned a boat which was to be easily sailed by us and our young family safely and in comfort.  As such, all sails are furling and all lines lead directly into the cockpit, this voids the need for anyone to go onto the foredeck. Together with family and friends we cruised extensively for at least a month a year around the Channel Islands and on to North and South Brittany.

Recent work carried out in September 2015 has included replacement of the saildrive gator and new rudder bearings.  She was antifouled in June 2015.

Frolika was fully coded for charter up till March 2014.  I have enjoyed using her for corporate days out whilst I have been skipper.  The charter work has been minimal over the last 14 years. During the last few years she has only been used commercially about four to six times annually. Being coded has the advantage that she has been routinely maintained and professionally inspected.

Many extras and updates have been made to ensure our cruising has been safe and comfortable.  More recently this has included new bunk foam, removable carpets, new Audio system.  I have added an extra battery for the anchor winch and an Adverc system to maximise battery charging.  Corroded locker stays, taps, mirrors and lights have been replaced to ensure her interior still looks new.  The teak cockpit and toe rail is oiled to improve her looks from the outside.  90% of the running rigging has been replaced in the last two years.

The sprayhood and dodgers were replaced in approx 2012.  In addition a cockpit cover was added at about the same time which adds living space in cooler and breezy conditions.  The cockpit cushions add comfort.  There is ample stowage for cruising with items such as folding bikes and inflatable kayaks etc. (not included).

Our Bavaria 42 was produced, in my opinion, at the time when the output from Bavaria Yachts was at its best.  The structure was solid and safe and was not compromised.  The quality of the interior wood joinery and styling was excellent.  I am glad to say Frolika exhibits little deterioration.

We are sad to be parting from Frolika as she has been a big part in our lives over the last 14 years but time for more extended cruising has allowed us to buy a larger vessel.
