Aberdeen Asset Management Cowes Week Photography Competition Winners Announced
For the second year running, the Aberdeen Asset Management Cowes Week Photography Competition has produced some stunning entries that really capture the spirit and beauty of Cowes Week.
Three prizes of £250 in equipment vouchers were awarded to Sophie Hunt, Simon Dear and Will Ball, winners of the Racing, Shore-side and Under 18 categories.
Organisers of Aberdeen Asset Management Cowes Week challenged aspiring photographers across Cowes from the 2nd to the 9th of August to capture the week from their perspective and upload their images to the Cowes Week website.
The Under-18’s prize went to 15 year-old Will Ball who snapped a selfie with a Go-Pro camera while climbing to the top of his grandfather’s boat’s 23 metre mast for the very first time. As well as capturing his delighted face, down below you can see Antilope, his grandfather’s boat and the Cowes Yacht Haven.
27 year-old Sophie Hunt from London’s photo onboard ‘MOANA’, a First 47.7 from Ghent in Belgium stood out to the judges in the Racing category. The vibrant yet cloudy scene was captured on her iPhone.
The Shore-side category was won by Newport local, 48 year-old Simon Dear. Simon captured two cyclist staring out at the dozens of boats dotted around the Cowes shore as thick clouds swell in the sky.
In addition to their prize of £250 in equipment vouchers, Sophie and Simon are being offered the opportunity to shadow a professional photograph at next years event.
Given the success of this year’s competition, organisers are confident it will return in 2015.
