The world's largest sailing yacht, Eos, has caused a stir by docking in Dartmouth harbour. At 300 foot long, with 200-foot masts and worth around £100 million, Eos, owned by Barry Diller, a powerful figure in the US television and film industry, Eos overpowers every yacht in the harbour, where it has docked to allow the British crew members to spend time with their families. Built in Germany, the yacht was launched last year and has a state-of-the-art navigation system, not one, but two million-pound back-up engines and a reportedly luxurious interior, although its makers have not publicly released details of its specification. The yacht has made appearances in several celebrity and fashion magazines, and supermodel Elle Macpherson has been pictured enjoying its amenities. David White, Dartmouth's harbourmaster, said: "Eos is so large that while she is on the river her masts will be the first thing visitors see as they drive in." He added: "Eos is simply one of the most spectacular craft you will ever see. The sheer height of the masts is something you will see nowhere else in the world." After a short stay in Dartmouth, Eos will sail to Gibraltar before heading back home to Germany for routine checks and maintenance.
