A victory in Bermuda has helped Frenchman Mathieu Richard unseat Brit Ian Williams from the top spot in the ISAF World Match Race Rankings for the first time in five months.
This is the first time Richard has claimed first place in the rankings, thanks to his win in ISAF Grade WC Gold Cup in Bermuda, while Williams finished in 12th, a disappointing placing that has ultimately cost him dear.
Richard will no doubt be overjoyed with his current ranking, having hovered close to the number one spot, always inside the top ten, for the last five years, and with just two events remaining, the 31-year-old will be keen to make the most of his current dominance.
Meanwhile, in the women's match race rankings, France's Claire Leroy has maintained her two year residence at the top, with successes including the ISAF Women's Match Racing Worlds, the ISAF Nations Cup Grand Final and the Women's European title - as well as a nomination for the 2007 ISAF Rolex World Sailor of the Year Award.
