Adrian Flanagan, who is attempting to become the first person to sail around the world solo via the polar regions, has been forced to postpone his trip for a second time.
The 46-year-old from Bicester in Oxfordshire initially set off in October of 2005, but was forced to halt a little under a year later, after covering 25,000 miles, when the Russian Arctic began to freeze over.
Mr Flanagan resumed his world-record bid this June, but again has been forced to retire by poor weather conditions, which have forced him to leave his boat, Barrabas, in Mehamn in Norway.
Mr Flanagan also blamed visa delays which had slowed his progress, meaning he would have had to cross Norwegian and North Seas at the wrong time of year.
"I've decided to stay my hand. My appetite is not diminished neither is my confidence in beautiful Barrabas or myself," he said, adding: "Barrabas will winter here in Mehamn and I will return in June to finally bring her home."
