Nearly 300 young sailors, representing the cream of the UK's university sailing crop, will be heading to Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy for the British University Sports Association (BUSA) Sailing Championship this weekend.
The event not only brings the season to a close, but also provides students from around the country with the chance to compete against one another in Laser, Laser 2, Firefly and Handicap classes on an individual basis, as well as battling it out for the overall Universities' Team Trophy.
Racing will commence at 11:30 on Saturday morning, with teams from some of the UK's leading universities taking part, including Southampton, Exeter, Solent, Bristol, University of the West of England, Plymouth, Sheffield, Durham and East Anglia.
Rosie Julian, events and marketing manager at the Academy, commented: "We are coming to the end of yet another busy and exciting year at the Academy.
"We've had some really memorable and very large events in 2007, with nearly 400 boats competing in the Optimist Nationals, 300 in the Laser Nationals and nearly 80 boats in the Laser SB3 European Championships."
