Skandia Team GBR's Beijing-nominated Yngling crew of Sarah Ayton, Sarah Webb and Pippa Wilson were victorious again at the RYA Winter Challenge Match Racing Series this weekend at Queen Mary Sailing Club in Staines.
Conditions for this, the first RYA match racing event since the ISAF's announced that women's match racing would be an event in the 2012 Olympics, were perfect, with plenty of sunshine and a westerly wind of eight to 15 knots.
The established Yngling team of Ayton, Webb and Wilson were keen to prove themselves in the build up to their Olympic bid, and were joined by experienced match racers Paul Campbell-James and Henry Clarke.
In the round robin competition, Ayton's crew were really given a run for their money Gemma Farrell and her team, with Ayton finishing with seven wins and one loss and Farrell five wins and three losses.
In the final, it was Ed Hill, Marti Watts, Christian Hamilton and Lauren Martel, who stepped up to the challenge laid down by Ayton, but ultimately even their best efforts were not sufficient, with Ayton playing the shifts skilfully to take the win.
