In order to ease boaters' fears about navigating their way to this summer's Inland Waterways Association (IWA) Festival, taking place at St Ives in Cambridgeshire, the Environment Agency (EA) has issued a special help section on its website.
There has been some concern of late about the build-up of silt around the locks at Denver Sluice and Salters Lode but the fact sheet and frequently asked questions section of the site should help to aid boaters as they journey to one of the highlights of the canal-lover's year.
Hundreds of canal boats are expected to descend on St Ives over the course of the August bank holiday weekend and the EA plans to organise a regular news service aimed at boaters going to the festival nearer the time.
Ultimately, the site will also develop a booking office, where they can organise their passage over the congested area.
John Adams, Anglian Waterways manager, said: "We know that there has been some speculation whether navigation will be possible for all boaters between Salters Lode and Denver Sluice.
"I hope that this fact sheet will allay any fears and make clear that it will be possible for all boats travelling to the IWA Festival this summer to navigate between the two locks and along the tidal section of the Great Ouse."
