Land, sea and air spectacular kicks off Southampton Boat Show 2015
Southampton Boat Show pulled out all the stops last weekend with a feast of entertainment on land, sea and air, marking the start of the UK’s highly-anticipated annual celebration of boating.
Launch day on Friday 11th September saw F1 presenter Suzi Perry and Britain’s Got Talent Winners, Collabro wow the crowds, joining Robert Braithwaite to open the Sunseeker stand.
Laura Harrison, PR and Marketing at Sunseeker London Group commented, “We are delighted to be back this year at the Southampton Boat Show entertaining the crowds and showcasing the amazing Sunseeker product to our guests and visitors. This year the stand consists of 11 motor yachts available to view, alongside our Sunseeker Brokerage stand and four motor yachts located on the water. We are looking forward to a busy 10 days and of course high levels of sales enquiries!"
Red Arrows in Action
On Saturday the world-famous Red Arrows performed spectacular aerobatics high above the marina. Flt Lt Stew Campbell from the Red Arrows said: “We thoroughly enjoyed performing our first ever display at the Southampton Boat Show today and hope we entertained visitors with our aerobatic manoeuvres. Flying over Europe’s largest purpose built marina really brought home the scale and size of the event. We’re sure this won’t be our last appearance.”
Southampton Boat Show also played host on Sunday to the national finals of the RYA Honda Youth RIB championships. Young people from around the UK and Channel Islands have battled their way to the nail biting culmination of the National competition, and the fast-paced racing gave the crowds plenty to get excited about on the day. Ollie Pirt from Derwent Sailing Club triumphed in the 8-12 age group. And congratulations also to Max Mawer from Girton Sailing Club, winner in the 13-16 age group.
Murray Ellis, Managing Director of British Marine Boat Shows said, “After 47 years in Southampton, we’re always looking to excite our visitors with innovative and exciting experiences. This year we’ve not only brought the Red Arrows to Southampton, but we’ve also constructed a purpose built Aquarium, showcased another spectacular Tall Ship – The Earl of Pembroke – and created the Adventure River Canoe Ride for the younger generation. All of these attractions, combined with the hundreds of boats on the marina, and the opportunities to get out on the water for free, really turn the Show into a festival of boating for everyone.”
