New Developments in Sir Ben Ainslie's America's Cup Bid
Last week we wrote about Sir Ben Ainslie’s bid to win the 35th America's Cup with a team from Great Britain.
Today he has turned up the heat as he met with the Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton, at his America's Cup bid launch.
The meeting follows the news last week that Ainslie has enlisted the help of Adrian Newey, the most renowned Formula One designer in recent history to help design a state-of-the art catamaran for the race.
Although Newey won’t be leaving F1 behind, his involvement in the America's Cup goes hand in hand with the new Red Bull Technology Projects. To participate in Red Bull’s new ventures, Newey turned down an offer of £23million a year to join the team at Ferrari.
Newey has been publicly open about his interest in being involved in the America's Cup after supposedly discussing the possibility with Ainslie at last season's Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
With a collaboration with Red Bull Technology Projects and $100million reportedly secured in funding, Ainslie’s ambitions look increasingly likely to happen.
