Safety at Sea: How CoastKey works as a wireless kill cord
CoastKey works as a wireless engine kill switch, and can be used in addition to the existing kill cord. This Norwegian product has received rave reviews in the UK boating press and we agree that it's an easy-to-use boat safety device, proving very popular with boat owners here in the UK.
If the motor boat’s driver falls overboard, the communication between the boat and driver is disrupted, the engine will stop immediately and the signal beacon is activated. CoastKey also acts as an immobilizer. This is automatically activated when the ignition is switched off.
This lightweight wireless device can be worn as a pendant around the neck, or clipped to clothing - you don't need to be wired to the console. It allows the driver to move about on board safely and easily.
Coastkey is a top quality Scandinavian built product, reportedly installed and in use on more than 1600 craft to date. The product has been approved by warranty statements from leading outboard brands such as Evinrude and Suzuki (Norway). The product has been well received by the leading Inboard and Outboard motor suppliers and is currently in use by: Yamaha, Suzuki, Evinrude, Johnson, Honda, Mercury/Mercruiser, Volvo Penta, VW, Weber & Yanmar.
Simple to use
CoastKey is a ‘plug and play’ system which can be easily installed on all the most popular petrol and diesel engines. The battery has an impressive lifespan of two to three boating seasons.
With its neat design, CoastKey also boasts several other smart and useful features. You can start, stop and tilt the engine at a push of a button and up to 15m away from the boat.
