Sir Robin Knox-Johnston celebrates new maritime telemedicine business ClipperTelemed+
Sir Robin Knox-Johnston, founder and chairman of the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race, joined leading lights from the yachting world on Friday (April 17 2015) for the launch of an exciting new marine medical service - ClipperTelemed+.
Clipper Ventures Plc and its Global Medical Emergency Support Partner, PRAXES Medical Group, have launched the new joint venture as a result of the success of their partnership in the last edition of the Clipper Race.
The aim of ClipperTelemed+ is to provide fast emergency and general medical support from its doctors to those on yachts, superyachts and commercial ships around the world. Custom medical kits and equipment will also be marketed as part of a complete medical support service.
At the launch event at St Katharine Docks, London, industry peers saw Sir Robin Knox-Johnston name the ClipperTelemed+ yacht which is entering the Clipper 2015-16 Round the World Yacht Race. This boat will serve as a highly visible marketing platform for the new service. Sir Robin said: "We are pleased to launch this new joint venture. It is a result of our success as partners in the last edition of the race.
"Top quality medical advice will now be available for other ships 24/7, through the use of modern technology. This will give peace of mind for the company or ship owner, crew, family and guests. ClipperTelemed+™ doctors have specific telemedicine training and are highly experienced in providing remote advice at sea. We want to offer the same support service that we use to other mariners."
John Hockin, VP of Marketing for PRAXES said: “Crew on yachts, superyachts, commercial ships and exploration rigs can benefit from the service which uses advanced telemedicine methods from fully qualified emergency physicians within five minutes, wherever the casualty is located, in any language.”
Telemed sponsors 15/16 Clipper Race team
ClipperTelemed+, a new joint venture between Clipper Ventures and PRAXES Medical Group, is Team Sponsor in the 2015-16 edition of the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race.
The branded entry will be one of twelve identical 70ft ocean racing yachts that comprise the Clipper Race fleet.
The tenth edition of the biennial event provides the perfect global marketing platform to showcase the new service, which is powered by the PRAXES remote medical support team and will be provided to more than 600 crew on the race.
“Clipper Ventures operates a powerful global marketing tool in the Clipper Race that is used by major international brands and destinations to promote themselves around the world,” said Tom Bettle, business development manager, ClipperTelemed+. The fact that PRAXES supports hundreds of skippers and crew on the race provides a floating case study of the telemedicine service in action. This is the perfect way to launch ClipperTelemed+ world-wide.”
The next Clipper Race starts in August 2015 and will be the event’s tenth edition.
