Sound Artist Creates Music out of the Grand Union Canal at the Milton Keynes International Festival 2014
Today, the lock shift songs, an exclusive sonic installation funded by the Canal & River Trust and IF premieres at the 2014 Milton Keynes International Festival. The work’s composer is Kaffe Matthews, an award-winning and renowned sound artist.
Throughout mid-April, Kaffe took her inspiration for the piece from the Grand Union Canal that runs between London and Milton Keynes. She then accumulated a palette of sounds from in and around the canal in order to create sonic stories. Visitors will be able to listen to the work by laying in large ‘sonic beds’ fitted with dozens of speakers. The beds will also be synced with the lock shift songs and vibrate to complete the immersive sensory experience.
Below Kaffe Matthews explains the project.
The installation will run from the 18th-27th July from 10am-7pm. The installation is located in shopping unit opposite Door 10 of centre:mk, and entry is free.
