Watch Skateboarding on Water with Sea-Doo Jet Skis
Sea-Doo Jet Ski manufacturers BRP have just released an incredible video showing off the skills of some of the world's top wakeskaters.
Sea-Doo have been instrumental in the evolution of wakeboarding and wakeskating since the early days of the sports. Like many other extreme sports, the athleticism displayed by the world’s best wakeboarders and wakeskaters today is incredible. Jet skis have also come a long way since the early nineties, particularly when you look at the new Sea-Doo Spark, described as the most accessible watercraft on the market.
To celebrate the launch of the new model, Sea-Doo brought filmmaker Kevin ‘Sumpertramp’ Graham together with some of the best Nike wakeskate team members to create a short film showing off both the jet ski and the wakeskater’s skills. The film features Wake Skate Tour regulars and Nike Wake stars Nick Taylor, Ben Horan, and Jen GilanFarr. Watch the video below to see the riders in action.
The sport of wakeskating began life as an adaptation of wakeboarding, with the main difference being that the rider is not bound to the board. The top surface of the board is therefore usually covered with griptape like a skateboard. The tricks performed by riders are therefore far more like skateboarding as the lack of bindings allows the board to be spun and flipped. Typically wakeskaters are towed by jet skis, boats, or cable systems.
