From an era when tournament skiers had bushier moustaches and bigger perms than Tom Selleck, this is the boat that started MasterCrafts dominance in the ski/wakeboard boat market and is still an awesome towing machine. Obviously designed and built for 3 event skiing which of course she is still brilliant for, but as with all true inboard tournament boats she makes a superb compact wakeboard boat with crisp wakes and easy speed holding which you simply cannot get from any outboard or sterndrive powered boat.
This is a true thoroughbred, so no long shoes, hair gel, Range Rover nonsense here which means no back seat, no stereo, no tower, no ballast, no LED courtesy lights, just a great hull, a big V8 and towing performance that runs rings around even the best modern sterndrive. This has been my own boat and she may be getting on a bit but she is a goodun
If you are in the market for a boat of this nature, at this sort of price point and age whatever you buy is bound to have its own little foibles and the owner should be happy to tinker, but let me give you a few reasons why you should consider this particular example very seriously;
1. All ski boats of this age (and many much younger) have wooden floors and hull strengthening stringers which rot and is a pig of a job to sort out – this particular boat had all new floors and stringers installed by ourselves 12 months ago.
2. The engine block/heads/manifolds and exhausts were all renewed around 5 years ago – it starts and runs beautifully. Can be heard running as part of a sale agreement.
3. Its never been run on LPG - be very very very wary of used boats which have most of their hours on LPG.
4. Electronic ignition was fitted 12 months ago for reliable starting.
5. A new stainless steel 4 blade prop was fitted 3 years ago for a better hole shot and smoother ride than the standard.
5. The upholstery and carpets were all new 3 years ago and are still in brilliant condition
6. The trailer bearings are good and just been checked and greased, and a new Ifor Williams hitch was fitted 3 years ago. Its an old trailer of course though and should probably best be regarded as a yard trailer (although I have towed it hundreds of miles over the past 18 months)
7. A brand new boat cover is included.
The original aluminium fuel tank was in a sorry state and you can't buy direct replacement tanks, so a new larger tank from a 2003 MasterCraft has been fitted.
