S J Tims of Staines, Middlesex (By Appointment) built ‘Camellia’ for their hire fleet in 1939 as the last of six slippers produced. She was the only one whose hull was crafted of Honduras mahogany and whose decks where planked with silver spruce.
As a result of the war, engines were in very short supply and consequently it was 1949 before ‘Camellia’ was given her “Ford” and finally commissioned into the fleet. ‘Camellia’ is the only surviving Thames Slipper Launch built by Tims. Her first private owner was Rowena Taylor, who worked for the BBC and who purchased her from Tims in the last 50’s. In May 1994, whilst named ‘Rosie Lee’, she was brought to Woottens for a total re-build.
In 2001 her engine was re-built including the cylinder head being skimmed, her cylinder block having had a re-bore in 1990.
