Everyman - 28 foot (nominal) class for sale

Motor BoatsCabin CruisersEveryman28 foot (nominal) class

“Brave Molly” was built in 1948 at Littlehampton, Sussex by ARC Marine and Co. Ltd. She was one of the numerous and successful “Everyman” 28 foot (nominal) class of coastal and estuary motor cruisers with a minimal motor sailing rig.

Brave Molly is a lovely example of traditional, classic British boat building constructed only in solid, seasoned woods with no veneers. She is much admired all along the Thames and has won runner up prize at the Traditional Boat Rally. She is in excellent condition and just benefited from a full hull repaint and antifoul plus all internal paintwork and external re varnish was completed over this winter

The class were constructed on the lines of Board of Trade 28-foot motor lifeboats with a round bilge hull. She is of carvel construction, mahogany on English oak timbers and mahogany superstructure with deck beams, carlines and decks of Columbian pine. All her fastenings were either of copper or brass. Her dimensions are 29’ 2’’ x 8’11’’: and draught of 3’3” hence the previous reference to nominal dimensions.

Internal lay-out comprises from forward: pump-out heads compartment with H&C hand-basin and separate shower; sleeping cabin with two wide berths, lockers and storage; main cabin with dinette double berth formed by the lowered table, lockers, full galley H & C services, cooker with oven and grill, and fridge; wheel-house with engine housing, seating and occasional fifth berth.

“Brave Molly” is one of two ARC Marine Everyman cruisers known to be on the non-tidal River Thames and there is a large photographic history with photographs of other Everyman boats with copies of original marketing brochures etc. as well as her original blue print ARC Marine line drawings, plus various articles on the boat’s class published in “The Motor Boat and Yachting” of January 1947 and December 1950.

First registered in 1949 as “Jumbuck” it is believed that her name was changed during a very major, expensive, yet sympathetic to the original design, reconstruction at Poole between 1992/1996 to both the hull and superstructure, which included a new Lister diesel engine with new services. Brave Molly is registered under Register of British Shipping Part 111 SSR 67403.

“Brave Molly” moved to the River Thames from Poole Harbour in 2000, the first time it is believed that she had ever been moored in fresh water. Stanley Thomas undertook all the works necessary for obtaining her Boat Safety Certificate and in addition fitted electric pumps to all fresh water services and a hot water calorifier with 240v immersion heater.
