messac is on the river villain which runs from biscay arzal to rennes. from messac going south there are 2 locks then 50 miles of river cruising
25 miles south on villain is town of redon where there is a cross roads of canals, right to lorient on biscay, left to nantes and the loire.up the loire there is another set of canals where le mans can be reached. in other words this is a great area to explore--all free with no licence needed
most places are free to stop overnight at. wonderful for kids. locks are free and usually have lock keepers and are automatic.
the weather is much better in messac and south of messac. always great from may to october compared to uk south.
