MITI was built in 1949 by Chris Craft, USA to their 18ft Riviera design and shipped to Italy where in the 1950s it is believed to have been used by film star Sophia Loren as she was owned by Carlo Ponti, her husband.
The Riviera model was available in 16ft, 18ft and 20ft sizes and was a iconic launch during the 1950s with an estimated 288 Riviera’s produced by Chris Craft overall from 1948 to 1952. Chris Craft was first established in 1881 by Chris Smith in Michigan and was particularly famous in the period from the 1920s to 1950s for their mahogany hulled power boats of which 159 models were available. Elvis, Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra, Katharine Hepburn and Sophia Loren were associated with these stylish and desirable boats.
