    This unique and charming, traditionally shaped, converted steel lifeboat is full of character with round porthole windows and both Bowden and rear Tiller steering. It has been used as a live aboard boat for the past ten years and being sold very reluctantly. ‘Flow’r of the Vale’ is believed to have been built in the early 1950’s and was converted in 2002, increasing its length from 28 to 33 feet by inserting a central wheelhouse / kitchen, the details of which were fairly meticulously recorded. In 2010, ‘Orca’, as she was previously named, fell victim to a freak incident and winter weather conditions and sank. But she was raised again a few weeks later and has since been lovingly restored, incorporating substantial design changes and improvements, especially to minimise the risk of any such recurrence. Headroom to the lounge and kitchen were increased along with ease of access to living quarters. The main bulk of such extensive refurbishment work and expenditure has been completed and to good standards. However, finishing off is not quite complete, so it would particularly appeal to someone wanting to make their own mark. This has been taken into consideration with the price, which should be around £50,000 otherwise.

    Accommodation now comprises:
    Lounge with double Futon sofa bed and seating;
    Wheelhouse kitchen with four ring gas cooker, round stainless steel sink, built-in cupboards, controls panel & steering wheel, with engine, battery bank and substantial storage below the floor;
    Bedroom with double bed (large water tank below), fitted cupboards & drawers;
    En-suite bathroom with manual toilet, 1.4m long bath, vanity basin and storage.
    The diesel Perkins ….. engine, a very powerful modern engine installed in 2001, was refurbished with the boat’s electrics totally re-wired by a respected boat engineer, who tragically died. A bank of six 2V batteries provide the domestic circuits, lighting, etc, with a strong starter battery for the engine. Batteries are boosted by a 1.58 x 0.82m photo-voltaic solar panel and boosting by running the engine. A 1kW inverter provides 240 volt electricity to lounge sockets.
    The lounge was stripped back to the steelwork, which was re-coated and lined with foam fixed 50mm Styrofoam insulation, plywood and finish of beautiful lacquered mahogany effect hardwood strips with 4mm pine strips between. Tacky aluminium sliding windows were replaced with four magnificent revolving brass portholes, made in Glasgow, but reclaimed from a Greek ocean liner. The vintage steering mechanisms, which allow steering from the aft, outdoors (which is lovely in summer), were exposed and painted to make a unique feature visible behind seating.
    The wheelhouse doors are old and need replacing, but the lacquered hardwood windows are in good repair incorporating sealed double-glazed units.
    Instantaneous hot water is provided by a flueless, gas fired catalytic hot water heater, with the water tank large enough to enjoy two baths. Heating is provided by catalytic gas heaters, two wall-hung 2kW heaters to the lounge. An external, vented, gas bottle chamber is on the aft, with a bubble tester fitted to the gas pipes for safety. External paintwork has just been renewed with cellulose car paint on primer / undercoat to deck areas. Just 3 years since antifouling the hull.
    The beautiful riverside rural mooring is optional, subject to Landlady/lord approval of purchaser), surrounded by countryside yet within 100 yards of village pub and only 4 miles from York centre. Tel Pete - Phone number removed -
