Harry Feltham - Schooner for sale

My elderly father has an old boat that he has owned since the early 80's and now needs a new owner who likes a challenge!

The boat is called Herga and she was built by Harry Feltham in Portsmouth. She was first registered in 1930, also in Portsmouth.
She comes with her Certificate of British Registry which details all of the owners since first registered. The most recent owner is my father who purchased the boat on 12th January 1983.

While her hull is around 28 feet, she also has a 6 foot long bowsprit and 3 foot long bumkin making her around 37 feet in total when fully rigged. The boat is somewhat recognisable, mainly due to the topless figurehead that has attracted a lot of interest through the years!!

The boat was moored at Lymington yacht club until 2009 when she was transported to a local farm in Buckinghamshire and sadly has sat deteriorating ever since. My father (now 87 years old) has finally come to the realisation that he is physically unable to either restore or sail her again and would like to move her on to someone who is brave enough to take on restoration of such a project.
Unfortunately the deck & cabin have deteriorated and have rotted significantly. The copper clad teak hull however is still in good shape. The Volvo Penta inboard engine is still fitted. Overall, as a general summary I would say that the whole boat looks very sorry for itself!

Most of the photos are from back when we used to sail her. The last two are recent photos and do make her look pretty bad but bear in mind that she literally hasn't been touched in 10 years so a lot of surface muck should come straight off. I have gone around the hull and that still seems to be solid but the top deck and cabin area is very rotten. The sails and rigging along with a lot of the internals and navigation has been dry stored in his garage so is in reasonable shape.

If there is anyone brave enough to take on such a big project then please contact me as it would be a shame to break the boat up. Really all he just wants is for her to go to a good home and see the sea again!...Read full description
