35ft Classic Maurice Griffiths Bermudan Cutter

Jorrocks II a 35ft Bermudan Cutter, is one of only two yachts built to this atypical Maurice Griffiths design; the first one was his own (Wild Lone II, now Wild Goose, launched in 1935)she was so admired by a former High Sheriff of Essex, that he bought a set of her plans and commissioned the Leslie Harris yard at Burnham on Crouch to build him a similar yacht. That yacht was Jorrocks II; she was completed in 1936 and was the last yacht to be built at the Harris yard. She is truly a classic.
Jorrocks’ overall length is 35’7", beam 9’3" and draft 4’7". She is a Bermudan cutter, her hull planked in pitch pine below the waterline and mainly mahogany above. The mast is spruce, keel steeped (stripped back, refinished and currently in storage. The boom is spruce, the spinnaker pole is Douglas fir and the bowsprit is pine.
Internally, she has teak joinery and oak beams. The tiller is of varnished teak, as is the cockpit. There are 2 anchors; a main 35lb CQR and a 15lb CQR. Kedge. There is a wooden dinghy which stows on the coach roof between the doghouse and the mast.
Articles about her and her sister, Wild Lone II, Maurice Griffiths own boat are available, old 2007 survey. She has also appeared in Classic Boat magazine.
Presently sat ashore at Alan Stalyey's Boatyard, Faversham She is undergoing a refit Oct/Nov 2018. The underwater hulll has been completely stripped back. The topsides have had some re-stopping and will be repainted.
