    • Vancouver 27 - Vancouver 27 - For Sale or Exchange for bigger boat - Offers Considered

The Vancouver 27 is an uncompromising cruising-oriented design, with no concessions to racing or modern fashion.

The heavy-displacement long keel hull is very solidly built, and the hull form copes well with added weight for stores for long passages. This 1978 example is a 3/4 berth version. The engine is newer than the hull, and in recent years she has had new sails and Eberspacher heating fitted. She is just about to emerge from a major refit including a Professional Paint job of top sides in Awlgrip, all Standing and running Rigging renewed, including a New Furlex, New rudder bearings, New nav lights in LED, New rewiring and New guard rails.

Part Exchange for bigger boat possible

The Vancouver 27 was designed by Canadian Robert Harris, the first boat being built as a one-off cruiser which was then sailed from British Columbia to New Zealand and back. Later a second boat was built, and moulds were taken from this for series production, both in Canada and England. The English Vancouvers have a slightly modified hull form, to increase stiffness, and were first built by Pheon Yachts, later taken over by Northshore. The design was modified slightly to create the Vancouver 274 and then the Vancouver 28, which remained in limited production until Northshore closed down in 2013.
The differences between the 27, 274 and 28 are very minor. the 28 having a fractionally lengthened stern, and a few inches raising of the topsides. To date over 250 Vancouver 27s 274s and 28s have been built, and many have made long-distance passages, helped by the fact that the transom-hung rudder makes it easy to fit trim tab windvane steering.
Several different interior layouts have been used, with three or four berths. This yacht is a three-berth version plus a pipe cot, with a small double berth in the forecabin and a settee berth in the saloon, over which a pipe cot can be rigged if required. The hull and deck are hand laid up GRP. The lead ballast is encapsulated entirely within the hull moulding. The deck moulding has a balsa core which is replaced with plywood in high stress areas where fittings are attached.Vancouver 27 1978 fitted with a Volvo 2002 18hp diesel. Designed without compromise for shorthanded long distance sailing, these strongly built all-weather performers are well proven blue water cruisers.
Safe and seaworthy, the moderate draft also makes them ideal for coastal cruising and exploring the shallow waters

The Vancouver 27 was first built on a semi-production basis by Tradewind Boats in Port Coquitlam, British Columbia,CAN, followed by Philbrooks Shipyard and finally Seair Marine Ltd of British Columbia. In 1988, these molds were destroyed and construction of the boat ceased in North America. Later, the design was built in England as a collaboration of Pheon Yachts Ltd. and Northshore Yachts Ltd..
