The first owner (for approx. 10yrs) initially used her for day charters on the Upper Thames (see period advertisement of same). The second owner purchased her through his company ‘JFPR Ltd’ and later he purchased her from his company. All this time she was lightly used on the upper reaches of the Thames…hence the low engine hours.
The current owner purchased Singapore Girl in Oct 2015 and had her trucked to Fairlie Quay where she underwent a very extensive (and photographed) refit over 18 months. This included completely rewiring and re-plumbing the entire vessel, gutting and rebuilding the forward cabins, and installing all new equipment, fittings and furnishings.
At some time in the first ownership the hull was epoxied and later a coat of epoxy-tar was applied as well. There are no signs whatsoever of osmosis (which was an issue with some early Taiwan built hulls).
The topsides have been spray-painted with 2-pack. All teak was taken back to bare wood and re-varnished. The varnish is in generally good condition but some areas need freshening.

21. Gas regulator OWNER’S COMMENTS :
Singapore Girl is very seaworthy thanks to her full displacement and long keel. The combination of her single engine and bow-thruster mean she is not only really economical but also easily managed single-handed. On a recent single-handed trip from Ardfern via Craighouse, Gigha, round the Mull to Campbeltown then up the Kilbrannan Sound to Tarbert (some of the trip in Force 5 on the beam) she used about 5 litres per hour at 1500rpm giving between 5-6kts, which I find to be her most comfortable cruising speed. She can be pushed to 8+kts if needs must but her theoretical hull speed is about 7.5 so that becomes very un-economical. However it shows that the engine has ample power to drive the boat at good speed into a head-wind and sea.
The high bulwarks and solid teak handrail make the walk-around decks really safe. She’s surprisingly roomy given her actual overall length and the flybridge is huge.
I have re-fitted her to be really cosy and comfortable for 2-3 on passengers and a couple more guests for day-time adventures.
I’ve always had sailing yachts but we got a big(ish) dog and decided we should get a steady motor yacht so we could easily take him with us. However that’s not working out as I had hoped so I’d like to get back to a sailing yacht…. (and leave the dog ashore ! ).
