Welcome to the selling page of our Nova 27ft Sailing Yacht.

We purchased this boat approximately 2.5 years ago as a project, with the intention of doing all work necessary to make her seaworthy for a long passage. Then take a year off, and sail her over to the Med. Unfortunately, due to family/work commitments, we are not in a position to carry out this plan in the foreseeable future. We have therefore decided to move back onto land full-time, and follow this dream sometime in the future - hence the reason we have taken the sad decision to sell Bilbo II.

This boat was built by Penryn boatbuilders, which were based in Cornwall in approximately 1976. At the time she was new, she was registered with Lloyds - and still has the registration plaque inside the bulkhead.

She is a very seaworthy yacht - currently being sailed regularly in the area of the Bristol Channel. Although only 27ft in length, she is very roomy down below, and has provided live aboard accommodation for myself and my partner on and off for the last 2.5 years.

One really unique (that I can find) design of this yacht is the very large, twin sliding hatch leading down into the lounge/galley. This really opens the boat up during nice weather - you can sit in the lounge or cook in the galley during summer weather with the roof almost fully open! A really nice way to spend a summer evening!

We have carried out a lot of work on her since bringing her to Portishead Marina (where she is currently based). For example ...

The engine has been removed and professionally stripped, cleaned, new gaskets, filters etc applied and re-fitted. This was at a cost of approximately £1,500 last summer.

New electronic switch panel has been installed, which included removing the fuses and replacing with trip switch panels. This also includes a handy USB charger!

Switch Panel also has a Clipper Battery Monitor installed, which gives electronic information as to the health/charge in the leisure battery.

    The hatches have been rebuilt.

The rudder has been removed strengthened and rebuilt.

The hull has been completely stripped back to original, primed and anti fouled.

The heads have been removed, insulated, carpeted, new cupboards built and new Jabasco manual toilet installed.

The storage cupboard (full length, opposite heads) has been insulated, and a tube heater installed (for use with shore power) to ensure clothes do not get damp/mouldy.

New inlet seacock fitted for head.

Fore Cabin has been insulated and carpeted.

Electric points installed (for use with shore power), which includes 2 x double sockets in fore cabin along with USB charging points.

New LED lighting installed in fore cabin, which includes red LED lighting for night vision.

    New bilge pump fitted.

TV with DVD player installed in fore cabin, so DVD's/TV can be watched in bed! (TV not included)

Other jobs have also been undertaken - for example, the deck has been painted (2 large tins of rubberised paint also provided for a longer-lasting job).

Also included in this sale is a manual anchor windlass. This has not been installed yet - but would be an easy job which would make raising/lowering the anchor much easier.

This yacht is fitted with a 10hp Sabb inboard diesel engine, which is brilliant! It can be started by hand (via starting handle) - which is very useful if battery issues! This has never been required though because it starts on the button with the electric start. This engine has always been 100% reliable, and burns around 1 litre of fuel an hour - pushing Bilbo through the water at a steady 7-8 knots.

A number of sails are included in the sale. As you can see from the photographs, there are red sails currently fitted. There is another red main sail (loose footed) which seems virtually new. There are also a set of white sails, and a storm fore-sail.

There are two batteries installed. The first, a 75aH leisure battery, which is used to power the lights etc. The second is a starting battery for the engine.

This has been a very easy boat for us relative newcomers to handle, even in the unpredictable waters of the Bristol Channel. She doesn't get there fast - she wasn't built for racing - but she gets there reliably. Cruising speed is approximately 7-8 knots. As were most boats built in this era, she is built like a tank, with a very strong hull.

The boat is fitted with basic electronics, for example, VHF radio, speed log, depth log and wind direction (NASA instruments). I used my iPad with Navionics for navigation, which worked well.

As already stated - we have used this boat on and off as a live aboard for about 2.5 years. She is surprisingly roomy down below, in what is a relatively small length. Technically, she is a 5 berth, with 2 berths in the fore cabin, another 2 in the lounge (settee) and 1 quarter berth. We currently use the quarter berth to store the fridge and freezer, and have installed a (non standard) folding table in the lounge area so we have somewhere to eat etc.

She is currently moored in Portishead Quays Marina, which is a 5 star marina within the Quays Group. It is an excellent marina with excellent facilities. The mooring fees are fully paid until the end of March, and will also be included in the sale. The marina has full facilities (including family bathrooms, showers, laundrette, etc), as well as an allocated parking space, etc.

Bilbo II would benefit from updating inside - especially the galley. The heads have already been done, the fore cabin has been done, and the cupboard has been done. The galley is outdated but this would be easy enough to change the couple of units involved. I am sure the new owner will also have a list of other "jobs" they will want to do to make this their own.

We have listed this boat with a "buy it now" price £6,000. The reason for this is because we originally paid £3,500. In the last 2 years we have paid approximately £1,500 for the engine to be removed, stripped and rebuilt. We have also spent approximately £1,000 for the other jobs to be done (e.g. rudder and hatches rebuilt etc). The sale price will also include the marina fees included for Portishead Marina unto the end of March 2018, which in itself is currently worth just over £1,000. We are realistic, however, and are very open to offers. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me - either through eBay message or via text etc on - Phone number removed - I would recommend a viewing.

We look forward to hearing from you - and again, please remember the "buy it now" price is negotiable, with any sensible and reasonable offer considered. Happy sailing.
