    Sharing exactly the same hull as the current model Nordic Tug 40, SINBAD offers an extremely rare opportunity to acquire a fully CE-Certified Flybridge variant of the evergreen Nordic Tug 37. Built in the USA and with a cult following in the challenging waters of North West USA and Canada, the Nordic Tug is a true all-weathers motor yacht with a combination of capability, sea-keeping and performance that leaves most other motor yachts in her wake. Powered by a 6-cylinder Cummins diesel engine, she can either sip fuel at full displacement speeds or pick up her skirts and plough through pretty much anything at up to 16 knots.

    Launched in 2008, then purchased by her current owners in 2010 and cruised extensively around Northern Europe, SINBAD features the perfect specification for comfortable and safe offshore and coastal cruising. Her specification highlights includes:-

    well priced and well located to attract a quick and simple sale.


    We first became aware of the iconic Nordic Tugs when sailing in the Pacific North-West in 2008 and 2010. After my wife became disabled we thought they looked ideal for us — seaworthy and comfortable, with good space in the saloon through cleverly designed side decks. Nordic Tugs are superbly constructed in a yard north of Seattle and we were advised by Canadian friends that the NT37 was 'a perfect boat for a couple used to sailing'; they thought the flybridge would be the best for us.

    In December 2010 we were lucky to find one of the few Nordic Tugs in Europe for sale. This was SINBAD, a 2008 boat (CE specification with 230V electrics) that had been little used. We bought her and proceeded to make a number of key modifications including the addition of a boom for hoisting dinghy, extra ventilation, adding more handholds, adding a slide-away Pullman berth to the guest cabin and replacing the original stern thruster with a much more effective twin-thruster solution.

    In 2011 and 2012 we enjoyed using the boat locally, not going beyond Weymouth. We also acted as a committee boat for the RTYC and an ICOYC event in the UK. One rough trip round St Albans Head
    confirmed SINBAD's sea-keeping qualities and gave us confidence to go further afield.

    In April 2013 we embarked upon a trip round northern Europe. We have spent around three months during each of the last five summers on board — and it has been a great experience. We have sailed over 6,000Nm on the boat; the engine has now run for a little more than 1,300 hours.

    SINBAD has behaved faultlessly. The boat has been versatile, utterly reliable, easy to manoeuvre, and has taken us through rough seas in the Baltic and the Channel. We have generally had friends with us on each leg of our voyage, but from time to time I have had to manage SINBAD on my own and there have been no problems when doing so. The bow and stern thrusters, together with alternative control positions, have made it relatively easy, particularly as there are useful doors near the helmsman's position.


    The idea that grew to become today’s Nordic Tugs had its origin in the fuel crisis of the mid-1970s: build a fuel-efficient vessel that combined the attributes most important to the cruising boater. It proved to be one of those rare ideas not only appropriate for its time, but an idea whose virtues are more relevant today than ever.

    To understand Nordic Tugs trawlers, a good place to start is with our owners who are experienced mariners. Most Nordic Tug owners have already owned a sailboat and or even a powerboat, but all owners have a clear idea of what they value in their ultimate cruiser. After all, our owners spend twice as many hours on the water each year compared to the average yacht owner. Some of that has to do with the comfort, fuel-efficiency and sense of community, but mostly it comes down to quality of life. Our owners have it.

    Every Nordic Tug is born in the U.S.A. and is brought to life by a dedicated long-term work force in a clean and healthy environment. Our 80,000-square-foot facility was purpose-built in 2007 and expanded over two buildings in 2014 exclusively to produce Nordic Tugs.

    At Nordic Tugs, the emphasis is always on quality over quantity. Each vessel is inspected at every stage to ensure it meets our stringent requirements for performance, durability, comfort, silent operation and fuel efficiency. Over 120 components and processes are monitored on the hull and deck before the two parts are ever bonded together, and this is only the beginning of Nordic Tugs’ quality assurance. It is the kind of quality you rarely find in production boats — a quality we confidently back with a full 10-year hull warranty.

    Designing the hull for a cruiser or trawler is a delicate balancing act. You want a design that offers stability both for comfort and safety, adequate speed so you can get to your destination and have time to enjoy it. Add fuel efficiency into the perfect cruising formula so you can explore without worrying about the next fuel stop. At Nordic Tugs, we have met this challenge with our unique semi-displacement hull, designed to meet the demands of serious inland and coastal cruising. At low speed, it conserves fuel and reduces roll. At high speed, it rises up to reduce drag. A versatility that neither a full displacement nor planing hull can match.

    In 2007, Nordic Tugs received National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA), American Boat and Yacht Council (ABYC) Certification for its entire product line — an important distinction in the marine industry. While all boats in the United States are required to meet U.S. Coast Guard regulations ABYC certified boats must meet more comprehensive standards and pass a rigorous third-party inspection to ensure that construction adheres to all of the applicable standards.

    With interest and inquiries increasing worldwide, Nordic Tugs applied for and received Conformité Européenne (CE) Certification in 2007. The United Kingdom received the first exported Nordic Tug, a 37.


    “Perhaps it's because, as children, many of us had Hardie Gramatky's classic children's story Little Toot read to us by our parents and grandparents, that so many boaters are a little bit enamored with tug boats. If you're such a person who appreciates the workmanlike, stout appearance of this genre, Nordic Tug of Burlington, Washington, has the boat for you.

    Designed by the late Lynn Senour, the Nordic Tug 37 was introduced in 1998 and remains in production today. She is a tug boat in style only and, from a performance standpoint, falls into a category with the somewhat oxymoronic name "fast trawler yacht." Because the swim platform is integral and actually part of the hull, the overall length is 39' 2" and 41' 3" with optional anchor pulpit, while the on-deck length is 37' 4". Beam is 12' 11" and although light ship displacement is only 22,600 lbs, her draft is 4' 4" owing to the depth of the full keel which protects the prop and rudder.

    The Nordic Tug 37 is solidly built to withstand the rigors of extended coastal cruising and heavy use. Just a few of the features that demonstrate Nordic Tug's commitment to quality include the use of a Vinylester exterior laminate to prevent osmotic blistering, a 1- thick keel laminate that is capable of withstanding the inevitable bump on the bottom, pipe-lined limber holes in stringers, frames and bulkheads to prevent water intrusion and a deck-to-hull joint that is sealed, bolted and then fiberglassed together.

    The most notable feature of the deck arrangement is that, unlike many trawler-styled yachts in this size range, she has no deck along the cabin sides of the main saloon. The arrangement allows the full width of the hull to be utilized for interior accommodations and the inconvenience of having to pass through the cabin in order to travel from bow to stern is outweighed by better interior accommodations. The aft deck measures slightly more than five feet deep by 10 feet wide and comfortably accommodates three deck chairs. There is a transom door for easy access to the swim deck and a ladder for access to the cabin top over the main saloon. This area can be used for lounging space or to store a dinghy; beginning in 2005, an optional flybridge helm was offered which is also accessed by ladder from the cockpit. The foredeck area is small but provides secure and easy access for handling ground tackle and dock lines.

    A six-cylinder Cummins marine diesel engine is standard on all Nordic Tug 37s. Early models were rated at 330 hp while the horsepower rating on later model engines was upped to 380. The engine room is beneath the bridgedeck and owners who do their own maintenance will find it a delight. Even with the standard auxiliary generator, there is 360-degree access to all machinery.

    Lightly loaded, the Nordic Tug 37 has a top speed of about 18 knots. Depending on load, she can cruise at 12 to 14 knots but to do so will consume 13 gallons of fuel per hour. At about 1,200 rpm she should make an honest 8 knots and consume a bit more than 3 gallons per hour.
