22ft Classic Long-Keeled 1962 Carvel-Built Sloop of mahogany on oak frames.
Research suggests “Rompey” may well be 1 of 5 (possibly 7) Clyst class cruising yachts built by John Bickford, of Bickfords of Topsham, during the early 1960s. One is known to be still in regular use in the UK, while another is believed to have taken 20 days to cross the Atlantic from Cape Verde to Grenada in 2017. She was last reported cruising in the Caribbean heading towards the Eastern seaboard of the USA and Canada.
An elegant and seaworthy yacht, capable of both shallow and inland cruising as well as coastal passages, she has a Yanmar 1GM10 inboard diesel engine, an efficient Bermudan masthead rig, 3 berths in 2 cabins, and sea heads. Benefitting from an extensive refit in 2009 and new keel bolts in 2012, her classic look is enhanced by brass portholes and bulkhead carvings.
Hardly used for the last 3 years, with a little care and attention “Rompey” will make a beautiful, classic day-sailor or overnighter for a small family.
