The FB35 "Young Guns" is now for sale.

Built to a Fred Barrett design at Van Munster Boats in NSW, "Young Guns" started exceeding expectations from the very outset.
Built to a very high, Carbon/Nomex spec and a no-expense-spared attitude towards her specification, the end result has been nothing short of epic!
The attention to detail is like nothing you will have seen before on a 35 footer and with her consistently beating boats bigger in size and budget, there is not much this little pocket rocket cant do!

"Young Guns" is sold turn key, with a full CAT 3 NZ safety kit, excluding life rafts.

    10 x PFD's
2 x Anchors (1 is lightweight racing format)
Fully collapsible cradle, capable of long distance shipment.
Full boat cover from bow to stern.
    Navigation lights at deck.
    Masthead white nav light.
    Fusion stereo

    Tool kit
    Sail repair kit
    First aid kit

    Spare used running rigging.
    Assorted winch handles.
    Winch handle pockets.
    Cockpit tidy bags.

    Central cockpit storage locker.
    Assorted fenders and mooring lines.

"Young Guns" can comfortable sleep 6 on the dock and any three on the high side whilst racing. There is also ample room to add another aft pipecot, to offer 8 berths in total.
Due to the large cockpit the cabin top is quite forward in the boat, but with her decent free-board and coach roof, interior volume is good.
2 x pipe cots on either side and a saloon bunk ensure comfortable sleeping.
A small carbon sink is located forward of the mast and off to port, whilst the WC is also to port and in front of the mast bulkhead, offering some privacy.

The finish below decks have been very well thought out and really the quality is very high.

    The Design Approach:
The FB35 incorporates the benefits of a Grand Prix build approach, light displacement, high ballast ratio, high righting moment, forgiving appendage area and a modern sail and rig platform. The design aims at promoting the concept of fast sailing, without the need to adapt to variable ballast.
The FB35 is designed to be a fast club racing yacht, race week friendly, and a coastal passage rocket..

    LENGTH OVERALL: 10.65m - 34' 11"
    LENGTH WATERLINE: 8.14m - 26' 7"
    BEAM: 3.45m - 11' 4"
    DRAFT: 2.65m - 8' 8"
    BALLAST: 1850kgs - 4079 lbs (66%)
    SAIL AREA UPWIND: 80sq.m / 115sq.m

To achieve a high strength but light displacement the FB35 shells and components are fabricated from pre-preg carbon uni laminates either side of a Nomex core. The pre preg approach is the most advanced technology available to build high- strength light weight structures from and something which Van Munster Boats is good at doing.
The savings in weight and the overall structural rigidity are worth any additional cost.

    Deck Layout:
The slightly asymmetrical companionway was born out of an access when the keel is raised. The offset approach is not unlike the current crop of flush deck sailing machines. The halyards and other lines are run to a designated pit winch. The cockpit is wide and open, with the main sheet traveller positioned aft of the helm with top mast running back stay winches at close hand for adjustment upwind. The forward portion of the cockpit is standard with split mainsheet winches and then primary winches forward of them.
Headsail sheeting is done using longitudinal tracks and a floating ring arrangement, which allows you to manipulate the sheeting position in any way you deem fit.
Immediately when you step on, you can see that the hardware is to a top spec.
Harken has been used in the majority and the winch package is well matched to deal with the loads on board.

2 x Harken Primaries, with speed ring base.
2 x Harken main sheet winches - self tailing.
2 x Harken runner winches - self tailing.
1 x Harken Pit winch - self tailing.

    Sail handling;
    - spinnaker sheets run under deck and allow for cross winching downwind.
    - Main sheet traveller run under deck and exits in the foot bar.
    - Custom mainsheet fairing plates in cockpit.
    - 3 x sheet "reeler" systems, for tidy spinnaker sheets and spin halyard.
    - Trip lines for locks on bulkhead.
    - Retractable bowsprit with tackline on clutch or constrictor system.

    - B&G H5000 processor.
    - 3 x 20/20 mast repeaters.
    - Zeus plotter below decks.
    - VHF
    - AIS system.
    - EPRIB
    - 240v shore power conversion with Mastervolt charging unit.
    - Interior 12v lighting.
    - 1 x House and 1 x start batteries.

    - Yanmar 22hp Inboard diesel engine.
    - 40 ltr fuel tank with filler on deck.
    - Spinlock flush throttle control.

    Rig and Sail Plan:
The modern approach towards Square Top mainsails has been the way forward for some time now and it is set on a two piece Hi- modulus carbon fibre tube with twin spreaders supplied through N.Z Rigging. The boom is also of carbon fibre and running rigging from Sydney Rigging.

    Mainsail; P 14.90m, E 4.88m, MUW 1.83m, MTW 2.49m, MHW 3.48m
    Largest head sail; I 16.50m, J 4.30m, LP 7.46m, LL 16.55m, HHW 4.71m, HTW 2.56m
Masthead asymmetric, ASLU 19.45m, ASLE 16.50m, ASHW 11.73m,

The bowsprit is dual purpose with the carrier tube supporting the Code Zero and the extension flying massive asymmetric Sails. The boat is powerful and fast downwind flying 260sqm of sail area.
With a light displacement of 3200 kg's and a powerful hull form the yacht plane easy and makes for exciting downwind sailing.

    In addition to the high modulus carbon mast and boom, the high spec continues through the rest of the running and standing rigging package as follows;
    - PBO standing rigging.
    - All halyards on locks keeping weight out of the mast construction.
    - Race rigging package using dyneema/spectra/technora where appropriate.
    - 1 x Reef lock in boom. 2 x reefing sheaves.
    - Trip lines for locks located on companionway bulkhead.
    - 12ft retractable bowsprit.
    - Enerpac pump with internal mast jack and shims
    - Clean fore stay with hanked jib arrangement.

All sails from North NZ, overseen by Andrew Wills
