    Nelson 40''Vanquisher', Vanquisher is a purpose built Nelson 40, originally built as a Pilot vessel for the use of Trinity House Pilot service, in the Nab Tower area of the Solent. The pilot vessel was moulded in 1971. Today in 2015, the same hull mould is in use to construct further Pilot boats. This craft, with updates in 2001 at a cost of £44,000 and a further updates in 2006, at a cost of £67,000 and finally new engines in 2007 at a cost of £30,000, has kept this vessel up to date. Beside these listed expenditures, additional money and time has been spent on maintaining this vessel to a very high standard. Please note this vessel is easily capable of being re-MCA coded for commercial use. Surveyor, P.V. Townsend, Master Mariner, F.I.I.M.S, Bede Townsend, Surveyor 21st April 2015. Teak and Rubber protected Bow and Stern. Moulded and fitted out to Lloyds 100A1 standard, hull and machinery. Condition, The vessel was in no way opened up for survey. Only portable sections of the cabin sole and lockers were removed for inspection behind or below. The engine was not opened up or the shafts drawn. Skin fittings were hammer tested and valves operated. Condition & Moisture Content, Areas behind the heavy antifoul coating were cleaned back to the Gel-Coat. Within these areas a Sovereign Moisture metre was used to record any water ingress, into the hull. None was recorded. Further readings were taken above the waterline on the black topsides and no moisture was recorded. The underwater sections to above the waterline have been Gel Shielded. No signs of delamination were noted. It is believed the works were carried out at either the 2001 or 2006 refits. Bilge Pumps, The vessel is divided into 4 Water tight sections. Each section is fitted with a manual and electric float switch bilge pump, all have alarms fitted and tested. The engine space bilge pump has a dual switch valve, which can be used to collect oil residue in compliance with MGN280 – Item 29.2.3.3 Prevention of pollution at Sea.Fire Protection, The engine room, contained between watertight doors, is protected by a CO2 gas system. Bottle stowed on deck. Alarm tested satisfactorily. 2x 9kg Foam fire extinguishers are fitted fore and aft of the engine space, all in date. There are 2 x Fire blankets – 1 in the engine space and one fitted adjacent to the cooker. There is a PILOT gas alarm fitted adjacent to the cooker. This was tested and found satisfactory. Fuel Tanks, 3 x GRP Fuel tanks fitted outside of the engine space. Port and Stbd wing tanks and centre line tank above keel. Port and Stbd tanks keep centre line tank pressed up. Engine draws from centre line tank and returns to wing tanks. All pipework is Stainless steel or Copper. Duel Fuel filters in engine room space, all copper fuel lines, Batteries, A dedicated enclosed Battery box is located under the cockpit sole, with natural over side air vents. The vessel does not carry a generator. The Port and Stbd bank of 110 Amp hrs batteries are fitted with a change over switch, so batteries can be charged by the main engines in normal use. The whole vessel is fitted with a 24V lighting system as well as a mains 240V system from shore power. All bridge equipment is 24/12V, supplied from the battery bank.Engines, The vessel is fitted with a pair of Ford Sabre units of 212 BHP, These units were fitted in 2007. There were no oil leaks or signs of oil leaks observed. Engine hrs are approx 350hrs since 2010. The engines are fitted in a dedicated space, with no auxiliary, save an Eberspacher heater, fitted in 2012. Anchor / Cable, Sufficient chain and platted rope are stowed in the fwd locker in the normal fashion. However, the two anchors are stowed centrally, so that the helm can decide to use a bow or stern anchor, as conditions dictate. Nav Equipment, As stated ly, all bridge equipment is 12/24V supplied direct from the battery units. Furuno GP-1850w. Garmin 451 GPS. Furuno Radar. VHF with DSC MOB button. ICOM VHF. Radar Reflector. All Navigation lights working. Safety Equipment, A 6/8 man liferaft is fitted on deck in a GRP canister, connected to a Hydrostatic release. The whole unit is one year old ( Check expiry date). 4 x Life rings, named and with reflective tape. One with a light and one with a life line. 8 x Cosalt 32kg life jackets. 4 x Safety harnesses to clip onto the Hadrian Rail. Sea Anchor. Coastal Flare pack. Francis Search light.
