We have sailed many Oysters since owning the first Holman & Pye Oyster 53 Flying Scotsman (later extended to a 55). This hull, in our opinion, is the finest sailing hull of all the yachts we have ever sailed. Windward performance is exceptional and the main reason for winning all those Antigua races. Also crossing the Atlantic short handed in 14 days is very impressive. Having purchased Valent (which means Valiant in Catalan) and spent over £100,000 sterling on a refit, we now find that she is just a touch on the large size for me to handle on my own and, due only to advancing years, we now have to downsize to a smaller Oyster.
