Iconic ocean cruising yacht from the legendary Royal Huisman yard with naval architecture by Judel Vrolijk and interior design by Pieter Beeldsnijder. Extensively refitted over recent seasons with deck, rig, engine, generators and hydraulics all attended to. A stunning opportunity to buy one of the very finest yachts afloat.

The 34.3m Billy Budd II (ex Saudade) was built for a client who holds high performance as his first criterion. She is designed to be a fast and comfortable cruising yacht with a fully battened main, with many of the winches from Rondal.

On Billy Budd II the deck is not just functional: it is an aesthetic space as well, created by Pieter Beeldsnijder of PB design, in keeping with his philosophy that elements on deck and below ought to be in total harmony. In de the accommodation areas Beeldsnijder has created a joinery style he calls “Art Deco Maritime,” but which would still be “elegant” by any other name. It is fashioned in satin varnished mahogany, with contrasting wenge inlays and white-leather overheads. There is indirect lighting along the furniture baseboards, and portlights have sliding shoji screens that give warm natural light by day and soft backlighting by night. The overall effect is that of substance and intimacy.

In an era of mass production and throw-away values, Royal Huisman holds the torch for the finest custom engineering and craftsmanship. Its mission is to create exceptional yachts – whether classic or modern, sail or motor – for individuals with a distinctive vision and uncompromising standards. The yard is family-owned and was established in 1884. It was awarded the “Royal” warrant in1984 in recognition of 100 years of quality and excellence. This long-standing culture of perfectionism applies itself as equally to today’s leading edge technologies as it does to traditional craft skills.

Royal Huisman takes pride in building and refitting unique custom yachts, modern or classic, sail or motor, aluminium or carbon composite, from 30m (100ft) - 90m (300ft). The focus is dedicated to quality rather than quantity. To build yachts consistently ranked as the world’s finest requires a special approach.
Royal Huisman’s Intelligent Engineering™ uniquely blends expertise and infrastructure with specialist skills - both internal and external – to the specific requirements of each project. Continual investment in more than 30,000m2 of purpose-built facilities keeps the yard at the forefront of custom yacht-building and refitting.

The yard is located at the geographical heart of Holland’s internationally renowned concentration of specialist maritime industries. Here, customers can see their project being built “all under one roof”, yet with ready access to a world of skills and expertise.

Judel-Vrolijk was the naval architect firm involved in the professional vessel plans for Billy Budd II. Her interior design was realised by Pieter Beeldsnijder Design. Judel-Vrolijk is also associated with the yacht wider design collaboration for this yacht. Created by Royal Huisman this vessel was fabricated in the known yacht building country the Netherlands. She was successfully launched in Vollenhove in 1994 before being delivered to the original owner. The hull was constructed with aluminium. The sailing yacht main superstructure is made for the most part from aluminium.
