Big and comfortable cruising trimaran. Easy to sail, low maintenance, and dependable. A great multihull to enjoy the cruising lifestyle. This vessel attracts many paying customers that enjoy the space.

This is also a possible conversion into tourism vessel to carry dozens of paying passengers. It would be the largest commercial multihull operating in Thailand.

This trimaran was the collaboration of two long time friends and coworkers at Western Boatworks of California. Jay Kantola typically provided the designs for the firm and Richard Barrie oversaw the construction. If you saw the 1997 movie Titanic then you have already seen one of their collaborations. Kantola designed and Barrie then constructed the scale model Titanic used during the filming.

When Barrie was approaching retirement, he consulted with Kantola and asked him to design a large trimaran so he and his wife could enjoy sailing the Pacific. The Barries named the vessel Windswept and launched her in 2000. (Note: US Coastguard paperwork indicates the construction date as 1998.)
Windswept was approximately the 30th trimaran designed by Kantola. His trimarans, particularly his later ones are constructed using a light core construction and West System epoxy provided by Gougeon Brothers Inc. Bottom paint, or anti-fouling, is actually a matter of convenience instead of necessity for a trimaran built with West System epoxy since it is totally impervious to water.

Windswept was the 2nd trimaran Kantola designed for the Barrie couple. It is 19.8m (65ft) long and 12.2m (40ft) wide. It is believed to be the largest Kantola's designed.

The husband/wife team sailed Windswept for approximately 8 years. They crossed the Pacific from California to Australia and were on their way back to California and got as far as the Marshall Islands. There, owing in large part to the declining health of Richard, they sold the trimaran in 2009 to the current owner.

The comfortable sailing rig is perfect for a relaxed cruising and tourism vessel. If higher speed is important to you, an easy option is to use the existing rear mast step to convert the vessel to a ketch or a schooner.
