    Features

    The Bill Conway is a Lochin 38 Workboat commissioned in 1991 built as a research vessel for the University of Southampton. She provides a stable platform for staff and students during Oceanography field practical classes and as a survey/exploration vessel in the Solent and surrounding areas. In 2007 the engines were replaced with the current IVECO units each developing 150HP each and the vessel was previously Coded MCA Cat. 2 (60 miles f. s. h.) now expired. These craft are rare to the market and the 'Bill Conway' offers a comprehensive package for a variety of applications.

    Engines: Twin IVECO 6 cylinder deisel engines rated at approximately 150hp each with ZF MPM 63A reduction gearboxes (2.52:1). Reportedly installed new in 2007. Each engine runs a 24v alternator charging system and one engine (S) has a hydraulic take-off.

    Accommodation
    FORWARD AREA - comprises of the Galley to (S) and Heads (S). To port there is storage shelving on two levels. GALLEY - Stainless steel sink, cold water pump and small hot waterboiler, Microwave oven and Isotherm refrigerator. Lockering is provided above and below a small work surface. HEADS with electric flush sea toilet. A foot well could be used as a shower tray, if required. WHEELHOUSE Companionway steps lead to the Control Console(P) with electronic displays, auxiliary domestic switches, hydraulic steering system and Morse Teleflex single lever engine controls. Helmsman pedestal suspension seat with good vision through the aluminium framed windows. A monitoring work station (S) with storage below. Bench seating to port aft of helm. Below wheelhouse floor additional storage is provided. Central doors open outwards onto the WORKING DECK which is kept high to allow for a flush operating area to the transom partly protected by a framed canopy (removable). 1 ton Spencer Cater hydraulic drum winch (S) controlling a stern mounted 'A' frame. A hydraulic pump from the starboard engine serves the drum winch. The transom has three sliding panels inserted when not operating the trawl gear from the 'A' frame. Hercules deck hatches provide access to the engine room and to the tiller flat areas. A larger hinged hatch provides service access to the engine units. Substantial deck fittings conducive with a working vessel if this type.
