Sailing BoatsYachtsFrench Bros.Tankard 19
Tankard 19 long keeled Bermudan sloop with transom-hung rudder. Very strongly built in 1969 by French Bros. Essex. GRP hull and deck. Hull and deck are watertight and sound with new windows. Needs a new interior for longer voyaging but the existing basic structure would function adequately, with a little sprucing up, for day sailing or the odd night afloat. Not luxurious! She comes with a Colnebrook roller reefing drum which is unfitted. With the included but un- installed Astrodome, there is standing headroom at the companionway. 18'6" overall and 15' (I think) waterline, 6' beam and 3" draft. Her displacement is 1500kg with about half of that being the long, cast-iron keel on which she dries out comfortably. Complete with strong, light, channel-section aluminium beaching legs. Currently rigged as a Bermudan sloop but she would convert to junk nicely. New rudder and tiller. Main and head sails.
My plan for her was to participate in Jester Challenge events. She has the makings of a very fine solo ocean-going boat with her high ballast ratio, sweet turn of bilge and long keel. She needs work before that but presents as an almost blank canvas.
I'm looking for £1000 for her but I am very willing to talk about the price with the right person.
If you're looking for a simple, cheap first boat which will take a pounding as you bump from rock to sand bar and dry out easily, or a serious solo ocean-going vessel she could be worth a look and I would welcome your enquiry as she would like to see the sea again.
She is lying in Gloucestershire. A telehandler is close by to lift her into a trailer. She can be towed by a 4x4 on a flatbed or car trailer which makes transportation very simple.
