Sailing BoatsYachtsSeaquestSJ 320
SJ320 cruiser racer. We bought this boat to race locally in Scarborough and to cruise to race in events along the east coast including Edinburgh, Royal Northumberland Yacht club, whitby, and Bridlington. The boat has not let us down in respect of racing successes in IRC, PY and NECRA ratings both fully crewed (5 to 8) or white sail short handed. Nor has it let us down getting to and from regattas in comfort and with reasonable speed sailing between 8 and 9 knt or in light wind 7knt under engine at 2000 revs.
I bought Vision in 2013 and had 5 year insurance survey in 2018.
2013 Copper coated, engine overhaul and sail drive replace diaphragm, new standing rigging.
Since then new Hyde warp drive main (3 reefs and leech line to tack), number 3 (for what we think is optimum IRC for local sailing conditions) and 75m large asymmetric used for club racing. As nearly new laminate main reserved for regattas. In addition light 0.5oz and heavy 1.5oz symmetric 61 m class and small heavy asymmetric spinnakers.
I made and played with a bowsprit which is still available but not fitted at present. It would need a large downwind asymmetric to be useful in my opinion and we prefer using the spinnaker pole for all downwind sails.
Outboard tracks fitted for close reaching. and opening slot in a blow.
Centre sheeting main one of most useful improvements.
Engine runs well but rev counter and hours not working.
Toilet has been changed to chemical toilet as in Caravan but sea toilet could be refitted if needed.
A very satisfying sailing boat.
Reason for sail is probably best described as 7 year itch. I enjoy getting to know a boat and trying to optimise its performance the best I can. Not saying we have done all that is possible but looking for another challenge.
