    Additional Information (Owners Comments)
QUARTET of BRIXHAM Summary Quartet is a fine yacht that belies her age. Having only ever been skippered by one of her four co-owners she has been sailed thoughtfully at sea. She has never been chartered or loaned to third parties. Being purchased for the owners exclusive use, Quartet has benefited from both a high specification and a rigorous and uncompromising program of annual preventative maintenance of the vessel and her inventory. Inventory and fit-out. Quartet has been in the common ownership of four chums since her first season in 2008. This structure of ownership was designed because between us we have the skills necessary to address most aspects of boat ownership without leaning on third parties. This also meant that we could afford uncompromising preventative maintenance and did not have to turn to chartering as a means meeting the expenses of running her. Knowing that Quartet’s use would be exclusive to the owners a high level of inventory was installed at the outset. This was driven for our own comfort and, in so far as safety is concerned, only the very best would be acceptable to us for our family and friends. Examples include: installation of a second fridge, duplicate chart plotters, AIS and an inventory of safety features that complied with full charter regulations. That relatively high specification and wish for relative comfort are also reflected in the chosen options of twin heads, twin wheels configured in a manner that does not compromise a free cockpit for ‘day passengers’, and a hot shower on the aft deck. This year of build by Bavaria also represented the very highest specification of lockerage before they went more ‘contemporary’ and (to our mind) following which practicality gave way to aesthetics. This Bavaria model was chosen as the owners are not the lightest of chaps and she offers a spacious cockpit, roomy accommodation below decks and excellent lockerage without compromise to performance. Sea-keeping. Quartet has proven to be a very stable boat offering a relatively dry cockpit. As expected with her rig, she sails best with wind on the beam, but has very good performance sailing close hauled. We have never been disappointed with her performance when sailing in the company of other like-sized boats – often to the contrary. Quartet soon becomes the lead boat. Reliability Quartet has been very reliable since delivery with few customary snagging points (all of which were minor) that were soon sorted by the yard. Since then, the only real problem that has occurred during our period of ownership has been a niggling fault with one of the chart plotters which started to occur 8 years ago. Once explained to Raymarine sufficient parts were provided to remedy the problem without charge to us. Quartet is lifted before each Season and a full inspection made of hull, mechanical systems and standing rigging and running lines. We have been well rewarded by this program of preventative maintenance. She has never let us down at sea or in port. We have always been able to embark on passages as planned and arrive to schedule (save for customary diversions due to the English weather!) Use and typical passages. In addition to day sailing from her home berth in Brixham, Quartet has been regularly used for extended weekend sailing by her four owners as the crew, or by one of us entertaining close friends or our families. She is well known in the Harbours and Estuaries between the Solent and Newlyn in the far Southwest. This represents her prime cruising ground. However, once or twice a year the owners would take a week together to venture further afield. That might include an offshore cruise to the Channel Islands, North French Coast or the Scillies. Naturally we would normally pick our weather windows cautiously, but inevitably when cruising further afield Quartet has on occasions had to address some pretty steep seas and strong winds. She has always done so with ease reacting well to a reduction in sail area. We have never felt we have taken Quartet near her limits and she has always seen us through even the worst passages in relative comfort.
