    Siesta

Sparkman & Stephens “Impala 35” 1978. (Same as “Sagitta 35” made in Denmark.) Built in Italy.
Currently moored on the Rio Guadiana in Portugal.
    Offered for sale at !17,500
    Yanmar 2GM20
2,000 hours, Well maintained. Full professional head rebuild at 1,000 hours due to slight water
damage to rear exhaust valve (both replaced). New piston rings at the same time.
2017 New shaft , engine mounts, controls, cables, filter set up etc. Starts on the button.
130 litre Roto Plastics fuel tank 2000.
Imported into the UK in 2001 - see VAT exempt status documents.
Siesta has been with the present owner since 2000. She was found for sale in Bequia.
Since then she has completed five trans Atlantic crossings, three times single handed, and an
estimated 60,000 nautical miles. In this time only 1,200 hours have been put on the engine. The Aires will sail her through almost
    anything, with perhaps more frequent
adjustment needed in very light downwind
    sailing conditions.
    Mast out 2016.
New mast step heavily and professionally
glassed in. All aspects of mast and rig
checked and minor repairs carried out as
necessary. Wire not replaced as deemed
to be ok and “over rigged” by a (very)
    professional rigger.
    Norseman terminals. Bronze turnbuckles.
    New running rigging.
New mast boot and deck collar with
    poured “liquid rubber” chock.
Chain plates replaced 2000. Much heavier.
    New pushpit and arch 2000.
New pulpit 2016. New guard wires 2016.
Also in 2016 the water tanks were cleaned
and inspected. New inspection tops fitted.
New outlets and pipework in copper.
    New seacocks.
    Water stays potable and clean.
New foot pump fitted.Pro furl 42.
    New bearings 2014.
New guide bushes which run against the
    forestay 2016.
    Aries Circumnavigator.
Very good condition. Works as new.
Full factory spares pack in original box
    (very rare).
    Sails
    Lee Sails slab reefing.
Mainsail new in 2017. Used once.
New Genoa - 110%-ish. Made in the North
    Sails Loft.
Old but strong hank on storm jib. Runs up
    removable inner forestay.
Number 2 jib/blade also runs up inner
    forestay. Hank on.
    All new covers.
    Large spray hood.
Full cockpit awning. Only needs hose fitting
to work as high capacity water catcher
    (much admired).Heads seacocks replaced 2016.
Two good 35 lb CQRs. One newly
    regalvanized.
About 30 metres 3/8 inch chain.
One off old school pall plate ratchet anchor
handling gear. Works extremely well and
negates the need for a windlass.
    Mod Cons
    Mmmmm… none!
    Old Garmin 128 GPS.
    Old Garmin 160 fish finder.
    Assorted Atlantic and Caribbean charts.
    New Epirb 2014.
Simple home made paraffin cooker as
used by Hiscock. Details can be found in
    his book!
Love it or hate it, but no gas aboard!
Interior fit out very basic. Minimal but
functional Last refit was in 2016. Very little cosmetic
    work was done.
Six keel bolts at various positions were
removed and evaluated by a nondestructive
testing expert and found to be
perfect. No further bolts needed to be
removed. There are 34 keel bolts.
All anti fouling was sanded off. The surface
beneath was sound. Small repairs were
undertaken and several coats of copper
laden epoxy was applied. This appears to
have failed. Small blisters appear all over
and although still sound at present it will
need to be evaluated and redone.
I don’t know why this has happened, but I
did not use the branded product, opting to
source my own copper powder and epoxy.
Maybe the mix was wrong or maybe there
was too much moisture or humidity too
high when we applied it. It did rain briefly
during the application and although we felt
we had kept it as dry as possible this is, in
my mind, the most likely cause of the
    problem.
Live and learn! One window mid port has cracks. Deck
gelcoat is showing it’s agenda a paint job
    is needed.
    Cockpit also needs cosmetic attention.
The boat is simple, functional and strong.
Cosmetics and comfort have not taken
    priority over strength, simplicity and
    adventures.
I came to the Rio Guadiana expecting a
year’s stay and to then carry on to
    Granada, but personal circumstances
change and I have decided to sell Siesta
after the best 18 years of my life.
