Built in 2003 by the current owner using architectural plans that were purchased from Bruce Roberts and finished internally by a professional carpenter 'Ocean Free' provides a great opportunity for a couple or family who are looking to spend some extended time on board and experience some blue water cruising cutter rigged. Her layout boasts an impressive aft master cabin complete with ensuite. Forward in the bow is another double berth with a heads just aft of this. She boasts a good sized galley with a dinette opposite. A large saloon area with seating is opposite the inside helm station.
If you're looking for a solid go anywhere 20 ton Blue water cruiser for spending comfortable time aboard then "Ocean Free" needs to be viewed.
Owners Comments - 'My wife Larrie and I previously had a Macwester Seaforth 36 foot bilge Keeler which we built from hull and deck being the sail number 3 we called her "Seafree." Intending to go long distance we always said one day we will build Oceanfree. Reading about Ocean crossing we decided that steel is the safest medium. We bought a book of Bruce Roberts designs and decided that the 434 deck saloon version was exactly what we wanted. Extending the transom to incorporate a bathing platform took her to 45 feet. To say home built is not entirely accurate having been brought up in a building family we had the workshop space and equipment and I am a chartered surveyor. To carry out the construction of the steel hull and superstructure we had an expert with previous experience at Portsmouth naval dockyard and De Haviland (all long welds chemically tested) and also assistance from a man who had been with Osbornes Littlehampton. The American white oak joinery was undertaken by my Cousin Bill and I think you would agree he did excellent work. Rigging all by Chris Holman. Engine advice by the superb and patient Mike Bellamy at Lancing Marine. As we intended to take to the high see ourselves we cut no corners. Unfortunately when we launched in 2003 we had a business which couldn’t be left for long and then elderly parents which also couldn’t be left. Now life has moved on and we have seven grandchildren and the window of opportunity has closed. With arthritic knees and a dodgy hip after 20 years of great sailing around Normandy, Brittany, the Channel Islands, West Country to The Scillies with all our families and friends enjoying her safe comfortable accommodation, we feel the time has come for a new owner to take her on the next adventures.'
