In a billionaire’s world, private jets, multiple residences, private islands and megayachts are standard purchases. In this article, we take a look at the most expensive private yachts in the world and who owns them.  

 

If you have read our article on the 10 Largest Yachts in the World, you will probably recognise a few yachts and billionaires that appear on this list.  

10. Pelorus

Price: $300 million (£215 million)

Owner: Samuel Tak Lee (6th owner)

 

Perilous is a superyacht brought to life by the German shipyard, Lürssen. This particular superyacht has had at least half a dozen owners, including Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich. She was first built in 2003 and later refitted in 2007. 

 

9. Al Said

Price: $300 million (£215 million)

Owner: Royal Family of Oman 

 

At 155 metres long, Al Said is the world’s sixth largest and ninth most expensive yacht. She was built for the former Sultan of Oman in 2008. Her exterior was designed by naval designer and architect Espen Øino and pays homage to classic cruise liners.

Price: $320 million (£229 million)

Owner: Abdulla Al Futtaim 

 

Radiant is another superyacht on our list that was delivered by Lürssen. She’s 110 metres long with a striking grey hull and three decks. She was designed by Tim Heywood and the interior by Terence Disdale. Her current owner, Abdulla Al Futtaim, is an Emirati billionaire. 

 

7. Serene

Price:  $330 million (£236 million) 

Owner: Mohammed bin Salman (ex: Yuri Shefler) 

 

This sleek superyacht was built by the Italian shipyard Fincantieri and took to the water in 2011. She was originally built for Russian businessman Yuri Shefler, who then sold it to Saudi Arabian Prince, Mohammed bin Salaman.  

6. Dubai

Price: $400 million (£286 million)

Owner: UAE Royal Family 

 

Along with Azzam, the UAE Royals are also the proud owners of Dubai- a striking 162m yacht delivered  in 2006 by Platinum Yachts. Construction first started in 1996, meaning that Dubai took 10 years to complete.  

 

5. Motor Yacht A

Price: $440 Million (£315 million) 

Owner: Andrey Melnichenko

 

This superyacht has an undeniably unique design. Her most noticeable feature is perhaps that, unlike many of the other superyachts on this list, she only has a single deck. It was designed by the famous superyacht designer, Philippe Starck and spans an impressive 119 metres.

 

4. A+ (Topaz)

Price: $527 million (£377 million)

Owner: Shaikh Mansour

 

Here we have another contender from our top 10 largest yachts in the world. A+, formerly known as Topaz, was designed by Tim Heywood (exterior) and Terence Disdale (interior). And if, at 147m long, she wasn’t eye-catching enough, she also features a stunning illuminated line from bow to stern to light up the night.   

 

3. Azzam

Price: $600 million (£430 million)

Owner: UAE Royal Family 

 

At more than 180m, Azzam is the world’s largest private yacht. Built by Lürssen Yachts in 2013 for a member of the UAE Royal Family, Azzam is a truly impressive vessel to behold. According to the German shipyard, this colossal yacht took less than three years to build. 

 

2. Eclipse

Price: $800 million  (£572 million)

Owner: Roman Abramovich

 

As well as being the second most expensive private yacht, Eclipse is also the third largest in the world. Despite her hefty build price, according to Business Insider, it is thought that Ambramovich only paid $485 million (£348 million) for this megayacht.

Price: $4.8 billion (£3.4 billion)

Owner: Robert Knock

 

If you’re wondering why a 30-metre yacht is worth 3 billion pounds, then take a closer look at her hull; History Supreme is covered in an eye-watering 100,000 kilograms of gold and platinum. Which is why, despite being the smallest superyacht on this list, she rightfully claims the title of most expensive yacht.
